  • A TIDAL WAVE OF CONVENIENCE

When Tidal Wave Luxury Car Wash opened in March 2017, it brought to Chesterfield Valley not only a state-of-the-art car wash, but a gas station, a McArthur’s drive-thru bakery, and an amped-up convenience store that blows away expectations of the traditional spirits, snacks and slushies experience. The Edison Express c-store features a Brew Cave — literally, a walk-in refrigerator with a full selection of cold beers and specialty craft brews — Shakespeare’s Pizza (of Columbia, Mo., fame), froyo, fresh produce, a large wine section with party supplies and greeting cards, as well as slew of fountain drink options, iced coffees, slushie station, and more....more

    TOP GOLF

When Topgolf opens its 43rd location in Chesterfield Valley this summer, the 65,000-square-foot venue will be bringing a whole lot more to the area than a unique golfing experience. "We do appeal to golfers. It's a great place to practice your game," says Topgolf St. Louis-Chesterfield Director of Operations Benjamin Wolski. "You can know exactly how far you're hitting the ball." Guests can enjoy point-scoring golf games using microchipped balls that instantly score themselves, showing players the accuracy and distance of their shots on a TV screen in their hitting bay. Golfers can also take lessons from the two PGA pros on staff or purchase individual or corporate memberships that allow for unlimited play during certain hours, among other perks....more

    HOW SAFE ARE OUR SCHOOLS

When the city of Chesterfield incorporated in 1988, Columbine was just the name of an unincorporated town in Colorado. Today, Columbine, Sandy Hook, Parkland and, most recently, Santa Fe High School in Texas, are synonymous with the horrific school shootings that are so much a part of the regular news cycle that it’s almost numbing. By now, we know that these senseless killings can happen anywhere. So, how safe are our kids when we shuttle them off to school each day? Sgt. Chris Connelly heads the school resource officer program for the Chesterfield Police Department. "All in all, I think that our schools are very secure," Connelly says.....more

NEW TRANSPORTATION SERVICE FOR SENIORS NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

Riders say using ITNGateway is like riding with a friend. When Joan Cassell heard that a new transportation service for seniors was operating in her neighborhood, the 88-year-old signed up for it immediately. Now, she's a regular rider of ITNGateway, which she uses to attend exercise classes two times a week and run errands. Cassell described a recent trip. "I dropped something off at the dry cleaner, then I went to Trader Joe's, then I went to Dierbergs and then home," she says, "which is what I would have done when I had a car but is very hard to do with Uber and Lyft." ITNGateway Executive Director Susan Kallash-Bailey says that’s what differentiates the “door-through-door, arm-through-arm” service from taxis or ride-sharing services.....more

    HISTORY OF HOWELL ISLAND

Prior to the construction of the Daniel Boone Bridge in 1937, the only way for Chesterfield residents to cross the Missouri River was by ferry. Lewis’ Ferry took travelers from the end of Olive Street Road at Eatherton Road to Weldon Springs in St. Charles County. John Lewis owned 420 acres in the area of present day Faust Park. In 1810, he sold the property to Frederick Bates. When Bates was elected the second governor of Missouri in 1824, he rode his horse to Lewis’ Ferry, stabled the horse near the landing and road the ferry across the river where he kept a second horse. He then rode to the state capitol, St. Charles, to conduct business......more

BUTTERFLY HOUSE CELEBRATES 20 YEARS: ENTOMOLOGY LAB EXPANSION ON THE HORIZON

The butterflies that live at the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House in Chesterfield are the perfect ambassadors for their wild cousins – especially as the facility celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The Butterfly House, inspired by the late Evelyn Newman, has been located since 1998 at 15193 Olive Blvd., in St. Louis County's Faust Park. TRUST IS NOT AN INTERNAL CONTROL

Many small and mid-size businesses place their trust in one person — or a very small team of people — to manage their finances. Employing a single “go-to person” to manage all financial aspects of your business — like physical handling of cash, checks and wire transfers; payroll processing; month-end financial reporting; and accounts receivable and collections — should raise an immediate red flag that needs to be addressed. Having just one person in charge of all your financial processes can put your business at risk, particularly if that employee finds him- or herself in a personal financial crisis. Without a system of checks and balances, your business opens itself up to fraud or inaccurate financial reporting if that person decides to spend company money to address a problem at home.....more
