Long before the Women’s Event in May, Vaught said residents should already be prepping their landscapes for a healthy growing season by focusing on weed prevention, either by applying a pre-emergent herbicide or through more organic methods such as laying newspaper or cardboard under mulch beds to prevent weed growth. Early spring is also an ideal time to remove dead foliage from herbaceous perennials, while paying special attention to the best timing for pruning shrubs to encourage flowering and vigorous growth.
